After more than a decade of developing his genre-blurring musical style, Los Angeles-born producer Deorro, née Erick Orrosquieta, has far outgrown his early days as a budding bedroom producer and local hero to become a worldwide-touring DJ, reputable songwriter, and bona fide superstar producer. Today, he is armed with an impressive stockpile of globally certified, chart-topping, platinum-selling releases and viral hit singles, all built on the strength of his studio prowess and musical fluidity.
Deorro officially crossed over into the mainstream milieu in April 2014 with the release of “Five Hours,” on which he fully flexes his production chops and songwriting mastery:A warping crescendo of filters and fuzz builds a palpable sonic tension before a grenade of futuristic beats, bass, and bounce explodes through the speakers with no regard. His first-ever chart-topping single, the song became an immediate success worldwide, having charted in a number of countries, including reaching #8 on SNEP official FrenchSingles Chart and peaking at #1 on Billboard’s Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart. The sweeping success of the track led to a guest cameo appearance in the hit MTV series,Teen Wolf, with featured placement on the TV show’s official soundtrack (June 2014),as well as a commendable ranking in DJ Mag’s celebrated Top 100 DJs annual poll at#19, the highest new entry in 2014.
The following year, Deorro teamed up with Grammy Award-winning pop/R&B star ChrisBrown for a vocal-based remake of “Five Hours.” Released in March 2015, the updated“Five More Hours” elevated Deorro to the major leagues. The proof lives in the stats: With more than 19 global certifications, “Five More Hours” claims over 330 million Spotify streams and more than 200 million YouTube views of the official music video to date. The track also reached the Top 15 in the Spotify charts in 40 countries and reached the Top 15 in Apple Music’s overall charts in 16 countries.
It all now comes together on Good Evening, Deorro’s debut full-length album, out now via Ultra Music. Four years in the making, Good Evening welcomes a fully robust, creatively curious Deorro tackling his most ambitious artistic endeavor to date. Featuring a staggering 24 tracks, Good Evening follows the much-forgotten concept album format—complete with intros, outros, and interludes—to deliver a truly rare feat in modern electronic music. The end result is a widely versatile venture into sound design that breaks away from the EDM status quo and challenges the expectations of dance music fans. Written as one cohesive thread, Good Evening works as a timeline of ideas, where each song delivers a different sound and each interlude offers a different chapter in the storyline, ultimately providing a seamless listening experience designed to be heard from beginning to end.
While storytelling is evident on Good Evening, so too is the wide range of genres, styles and influences. Opening track “Guide Me” mixes bits of future bass with airy dream pop and a gospel choir chorus. “Turn Back Time,” with Teemu, amps up the indie-dance vibes, while “Goin Up,” featuring frequent vocal collaborator DyCy, funks out to the fullest. On lead single “Rise and Shine,” Deorro mixes jazz-inspired swing from the speakeasy era with his trademark bounce sound as he goes for the jugular on this aggressive sonic salvo, while “Feeling Pretty Good” features uplifting vocal samples built over a dubstep-tinged slow-burner.
Since its release in March 2017, the album has already stacked a laundry list of accolades: ranking high in the Apple Music Dance Album charts around the world, including #1 in two countries, #4 in France, and #19 in Australia, and additionally reaching the Top 50 in the Apple Music overall chart in six countries.
A proud Mexican-American, Deorro is also breaking ground in the worldwide Latin music market on the strength of his megahit “Bailar,” a Latin/EDM hybrid featuringGrammy Award-winning/Latin Grammy Award-winning international merengue star Elvis Crespo. Released in April 2016, the track has since garnered massive numbers: over128 million Spotify streams; more than 51 million YouTube views of the official music video; over 13 global certifications, including platinum status in Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain, and Italy, as well as gold status in France; significant charting on the US Top 40 Radio and Top 40 US Airplay charts; and much more. Following the mammoth success of the original track, Grammy Award-winning/Latin GrammyAward-winning global hitmaker Pitbull joined Deorro and Crespo on a new version of“Bailar,” which has amassed over 33 million streams on Spotify since its September 2016 release and most recently won the Billboard Latin Music Award for Tropical Song of the Year in April 2017. Elsewhere, Deorro’s 2014 Spanish-language song“Perdoname,” featuring DyCy and Adrian Delgado, has accumulated over 46 million Spotify streams, with an additional 7.5 million YouTube views of the official music video. Deorro also won the Best Latin American DJ category at the 2014 EMPO Awards, the most important awards ceremony for electronic music in Latin America.
Prior to, Deorro’s hit single, “I Can Be Somebody,” is a focus track on the official soundtrack for the Zac Efron-starring feature film, We Are Your Friends (August 2015, Interscope Records). He also maintains a steady lot of global festival anthems, including“Freak” with megastar DJs/producers Steve Aoki and Diplo (Mad Decent), which was featured on the official 22 Jump Street soundtrack, and “Flashlight” with R3hab (Spinnin’Records). His originals “Bootie in Your Face (No Rock Drop),” “Lose It,” and “Supa HotFiya,” all released via Ultra Music, also helped establish Deorro’s fast-rising status early on in 2014. In 2013, Deorro unleashed “Yee,” his first major release on Hardwell’sRevealed Recordings, which charted in Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, the Netherlands, and Switzerland. Additionally, his 2012 remix of Chuckie’s “Make Some Noise” landed him on the Top 50 chart on digital music retailer Beatport for the first time ever.
